A public health investigation found instruments used at Somaey Dental Services, located at Ware Street Medical and Dental Centre (Shop 3/ 37-41 Ware Street, Fairfield) operated by Dr Sahar Somaey from 12 August 2016 to 20 July 2017, were not cleaned, sterilised or stored in accordance with guidelines set by the Dental Board of Australia. Dr Somaey’s registration has been suspended, and Somaey Dental Services is now closed.

The overall risk to individual patients of blood-borne virus transmission has been assessed by NSW Health as low and no cases of blood-borne virus infection have been identified as associated with this dental practice. However, patients who believe they have had an invasive procedure by Dr Somaey are recommended to have testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.
