HealthOne Manilla
HealthOne Manilla is being developed as part of the Manilla Multi-Purpose Service. Capital works are underway, with completion of the HealthOne Manilla component of the service expected in early 2012.
The Manilla location and community
-
Manilla is located approximately 45 kms from Tamworth, with no direct public transport between the two centres.
-
Manilla has a population of 2110. Like many rural areas, the population is small and relatively static. At the 2006 census, the majority of the population of Manilla fell within the 45-69 group (35%), followed by the 25-44 group (19.3%) and the 0-14 group (19.2%). While 16% of the population is 70 years or older, there are also a significant number of families with young children living in the local area.
-
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people represent around 5.8% of the population of Manilla and its surrounding areas, in comparison to the state average of is 2.2%.
-
Mining has increased in the Manilla/Gunnedah area, and is expected to increase in the future, leading to larger numbers of young families living in the area. Young people who gain employment in Tamworth tend to buy a home in Manilla, where housing is more affordable.
The service and target population groups
HealthOne Manilla will integrate medical services provided by Manilla Rural Medical Clinic with community health services and private and public allied health services. Health care will be based on an integrated team service delivery model with shared care and management plans developed across service providers and domains. The HealthOne Manilla facility will also accommodate a range of visiting health services, largely from Tamworth.
The multidisciplinary team will consist of local and visiting services including medical practitioners, nursing, podiatry, optometry, psychology, child and family health services, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, rehabilitation nursing, audiometry, case managers, practice and clinic-based nurses, midwives and the Aged Care Assessment Team. There will be capacity to involve tertiary students of various disciplines in the HealthOne service.
HealthOne Manilla will conduct health promotion and education programs under the Wellness Integrated Care Model for the broader community living in Manilla, with initial emphasis on the following target groups:
-
children, young people and families
-
people that require chronic, aged and complex care
