HealthOne Rylstone
HealthOne Rylstone, in the Greater Western Area Health Service (GWAHS), opened in June 2009. The service has been developed as part of the Rylstone Multi-Purpose Service (MPS), integrating general practice and community health services and providing a hub for the primary health services in the Rylstone, Kandos and Ilford areas.
The Rylstone location and community
Rylstone is located on the Central Tablelands of NSW, 104 kms from Bathurst and 54 kms from Mudgee in the Midwestern Regional Council Local Government Area (LGA). It is one of the oldest settlements west of the Great Dividing Range. The principal industries in the area are farming and mining. The HealthOne Rylstone service catchment area includes the townships of Rylstone, Kandos and surrounding villages of Clandulla, Charbon, Bylong, Ilford, Running Stream and Glen Alice.
The percentage of children aged 5-14 years is 13.6% in the Rylstone catchment area, slightly higher than the State average of 13.4%. The percentage of people aged between 50 and 64 years of age is 23.7%, higher than the NSW average of 17.5%. The percentage of people aged 65 years and above is 19.8%, higher than the NSW average of 13.8%. The median age of people in the Rylstone catchment area is 45 years, compared with the Australian average of 37 years.
The service and target population groups
HealthOne Rylstone complements the services provided by the Rylstone MPS and contributes to the provision in a one-stop health facility. A collaborative approach between the general practitioner, primary care staff, visiting allied health service staff, and pathology service providers has improved client management through the exchange of information. The multidisciplinary team approach has improved communication and the co-ordination of care for clients with chronic and complex conditions.
