School Based Immunisation Programs

NSW School Based Vaccination Program 2008 | Vaccines being offered to Intensive English Centres (IECs) in 2008 | Distance Education/Home-Schooled Students

National Human Papillomavirus (HPV) School-based Vaccination Program

  • Information to Parents/Guardians regarding the National Human Papillomavirus School-based Vaccination Program:
    • In 2008, year 7, 8, 9, and 10 female students only will be offered HPV vaccine in a 3 dose course
    • Parents/guardians are asked to consent to a course of HPV vaccine
  • The local Public Health Units conducting the Program will provide catch-up vaccination for students who have commenced the school program and are absent on the day of the school clinic. Students who are absent from school during dose 1 clinic will be eligible to receive free HPV vaccine from their GP.
  • Students who have previously commenced a course of HPV vaccine with their local doctor are required to complete this course with their local doctor.

NSW School Based Vaccination Program 2008

  • Information to Parents/Guardians regarding vaccines offered to year 7 students in 2008
    • All Year 7 students entering High School in 2008 will be offered hepatitis B vaccine (in a 2 dose schedule).

    • Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine will be offered to all year 7 students in 2008 at school. Students aged 13 years and under require one dose of vaccine. However, students aged 14 years and over will be required to attend their local doctor for a second dose of vaccine (one month after the first dose) to complete the course. An advice card with this information will be given to eligible students on the day of their vaccination. Students who miss out on vaccination at school may receive this free vaccine at their local doctor.

Vaccines being offered to Intensive English Centres (IECs) in 2008

  • Information to Parents/Guardians regarding vaccines being offered to Intensive English Centres (IECs) in 2008
    • NSW Health is offering varicella (chickenpox); hepatitis B; diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (dTpa); measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) and meningococcal C vaccines to students in IECs in 2008. There will be one visit per term to each IEC.

Distance Education/Home-Schooled Students

  • Information to Parents/Guardians of distance education students/home-schooled students
    • Students who are enrolled in distance education facilities or who are home-schooled are advised to attend their GP for age-appropriate vaccinations.
