Whooping cough (which is sometimes also called pertussis) is a serious infection that usually causes a long coughing illness. In babies, the infection can be life threatening. Anyone can get whooping cough and the infection can spread to others, including babies.

The last major outbreak in NSW was in 2008 and 2009, but whooping cough is always around. In late 2010, we are seeing lots of whooping cough especially in primary-school-aged children in NSW.
