Chancroid

Chancroid

Chancroid is a sexually transmissible infection (STI). It is caused by a bacterium (Haemophilus ducreyi) which causes ulcers of the genitals.

You get chancroid by sexual contact with a person who has ulcers or sores due to this disease. Chancroid may be communicable from infection until the lesions are healed.

Notification

Chancroid is a laboratory notifiable disease in NSW and must be reported by phone or mail as soon as possible after diagnosis to the local Public Health Unit (PHU).
