HIV/AIDS
Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is caused by infection with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). AIDS occurs some time (often years) after an infection with HIV.
Notification
HIV/AIDS is a notifiable disease in NSW and must be reported by phone as soon as possible after diagnosis.
Doctors, Hospitals and laboratories must notify the local Public Health Unit (PHU).
