Shigellosis
Shigellosis is a bacterial disease caused by infection with Shigella bacteria. It causes diarrhoea and is easily spread among people. Good hygine is the key to prevention.
Notification
Shigellosis is a notifiable disease in NSW and must be reported by phone as soon as possible after diagnosis.
Doctors, Hospitals and laboratories must notify the local Public Health Unit (PHU).
