Syphilis

Syphilis

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by bacteria called Treponema pallidum. Unless treated, it can cause heart and brain damage, even death. Pregnant women can pass the infection to their unborn babies.

Notification

Syphilis is a notifiable disease in NSW and must be reported by phone as soon as possible after diagnosis.
 
Doctors, Hospitals and laboratories must notify the local Public Health Unit (PHU).
 
Select your local PHU  to obtain the correct notification form and notify your local PHU.
