Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is almost always caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Rarely, the bacteria Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium africanum cause disease in humans. Tuberculosis is transmitted by airborne droplets from cases of pulmonary or laryngeal disease produced by expiratory efforts such as coughing, singing or sneezing. Bovine tuberculosis may also be transmitted by ingestion of raw milk.
