Education

Education is provided to consumers, carers and health professionals through tailored sessions, which can be provided across New South Wales, Australia. ADAHPT staff can work within a range of session formats such as in-services, presentations and information sessions according to the needs required and can provide some presentation equipment (e.g. laptop and projector).

Where ADAHPT cannot provide education on the topic requested, a referral can be made to the appropriate organisation that can assist.

Some of the topics that can be covered include: an overview of ADAHPT and the role they provide in the community management of people with HIV and complex needs, description of and how to implement a service delivery model suited to people with multiple needs over the long-term (case management), how to recognise the early signs and symptoms of cognitive impairment and appropriate management strategies, issues for carers, management difficulties of people with HIV and drug and alcohol problems and/or a mental illness.

During 2006 Adahps sponsored a number of two day workshops in Mental Health First Aid training. These workshops were developed by The Centre for Mental Health Research at the Australian National University.
