The Villa

The Intensive HIV supported Accommodation Project (IHSAP) known as The Villa was established in 2003. This project is run in partnership between ADAHPT and SWISH (South West Inner Sydney Housing Co-operative).

The Villa provides supervised and supported care in a share house setting. It is a spacious, open-planned house, situated close to transport and other amenities/facilities in the inner west of Sydney. Residents are provided with their own bedroom and share communal areas including an enclosed sunny courtyard.

Project Aims

Based on the understanding that by providing adequate support, people living with HIV/AIDS who have cognitive impairment and complex needs are able to maintain secure accommodation. A case management model is used to ensure that each client is able to maximise their independence and realise their full potential. The project has a primary support worker, who works with local services to develop an individual case management plan for each resident. Extra support can be provided in response to individual need.

Client Group

Clients must meet the Adahps referral criteria and:

  • Have at least one nursing need
  • Mild to moderate cognitive impairment
  • Be eligible for public and/or community housing
  • Be homeless; at risk of homelessness; or inappropriately located/housed
  • Be able to maintain a tenancy with appropriate supports
  • Require more support than can be offered by other HIV supported accommodation services but less than "The Bridge"
  • Be prepared to participate in a supported contract
  • Meet the criteria and agree to become a client of ADAHPT
