Area of Need Program

Welcome to the Area of Need Program Website

The Program is a temporary strategy assisting in the provision of general practice and specialist medical services to locations in NSW that have limited access to such services, by enabling eligible employers to recruit suitably qualified international medical graduates to those vacant positions that have been given Area of Need status by the NSW Ministry of Health.

This site outlines the process for employers seeking Area of Need status for a vacant general practice or specialist medical position and the assessment criteria that applications must satisfy.

The site also provides international medical graduates a list of all current vacant positions with Area of Need status in public and private sectors.
