Centre for Oral Health Strategy

The Centre for Oral Health Strategy (COHS) NSW is responsible for planning and developing oral health policies that focus on oral health promotion, prevention, early intervention and treatment.
 
This encompasses the State's responsibility for health protection and disease prevention embodied in legislation, including fluoridation of public water supplies, and extends to applying public health approaches to the control of oral diseases.
 
The Centre for Oral Health Strategy is a Unit of Sydney West Area Health Service but reports directly to the NSW Chief Health Officer and the Population Health Division of the NSW Department of Health.
 
The Centre for Oral Health Strategy is also coordinating the NSW Health response to the Commonwealth Dental Health Program (CDHP), and the limited implementation of the Medicare Teen Dental Plan (MTDP) within by public oral health services in NSW.
