Selection

The basis of selection is merit. Your suitability will be established by referencing the requirements of the position and determining how well your abilities, qualifications, skills and experience meet the selection criteria.

A selection panel will review all applications received for a position. The panel may use a variety of methods to determine your suitability for the position including:

  • Your application
  • Face to face interviews (with one person or a panel)
  • Short presentations
  • Testing relevant or specific skills
  • Reference checks and credentialing reports

Read on for more information on the selection process and specific details of what you need to do.

Process

The selection process aims to assess your merit in relation to the selection criteria of the position. Generally the selection process begins with an assessment of your application by a selection panel and may lead through to interviews, employment screening and, if successful at all previous stages, a written offer.

For more information and what you need to do see Selection Process [PDF, 20k]. Please note that there may be slight differences in the process from one Area Health Service to another.

NSW Health is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer. More information on EEO is available on the website of the Public Employment Office.

Employment Screening

Selection committees will ensure that relevant, signed declarations or consent forms are collected at the interview. These may include:

  • A consent for a criminal record check or working with children check
  • A prohibited employment declaration for child-related employment
  • An authorisation to obtain relevant information from the Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) or the relevant registration body
  • Consent to conduct a service check e.g. previous employment details, previous payments of voluntary redundancy, absentee levels, etc.
  • A health declaration form (if applicable)

Only after preferred applicants have been identified will the relevant Working With Children Check (WWCC) or Criminal Record Check (CRC) be initiated in the manner required by the current NSW Health employment screening policies.
