Note

Systems for diagnosis and counting cases of pertussis have changed should be taken into account when interpreting NSW pertussis surveillance data.
Please note the following important caveats:
* From 1 January 2007, cut off titres for a commonly used serological test changed across NSW.
* In 2008, uptake of nucleic acid testing overtook serological methods for diagnosis of new cases in NSW.
* From 1 January 2009, NSW ceased collecting data about suspected cases of pertussis in accordance with national surveillance protocols.

Data were generated on 25 November 2009 and excluded persons whose age or sex was unknown, or who were not NSW residents.
Data are preliminary and subject to change as updates are received.
Refer to Guides and caveats for interpreting infectious disease data ('NSW Data') for aids in interpreting data.
