Women who took DES (DES mothers)

Women who took DES have a slightly increased risk of developing breast cancer and are advised to practice monthly breast self-exam, have an annual clinical breast examination, mammography and gynaecological checkup. Women who took DES should tell their children about their DES exposure, even if these children have not had health problems. Before taking any oestrogen treatment, eg, HRT, women who took DES should discuss the risks and benefits with their doctors.
