Summary

Ten years ago, when the NSW Health Aboriginal Environmental Health Officer (EHO) Training Program began, there were no Aboriginal EHOs working in NSW. Since then, the Program has trained more than 20 EHOs and Aboriginal people now comprise 17% of the NSW Health EHO workforce.

This report provides a summary of an external review of the Program that was conducted in 2009. It finds that, overall, the Program was successful in increasing the numbers of Aboriginal EHOs and that this has helped to increase focus of environmental health issues that particularly affect Aboriginal people.
