Summary

NSW Health undertook a health risk assessment to determine any potential health impacts to the community from the dioxin emissions from the MM Kembla factory in Port Kembla, NSW. This risk assessment used very conservative assumptions and compared it to the recommended levels of dioxin intake set by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

The report was reviewed by an independent clinical toxicologist Professor Alison Jones. The report concludes dioxin emissions from the MM Kembla factory are unlikely to pose a short or long term health risks to the surrounding community.
