About Children's Services
NSW Health Children's Services began in 1993 as
the Child Care Program. The Child Care Policy and Manual
(under review) was issued in 1996 and provided Area Health
Services with guidelines on the establishment and operation
of employer sponsored child care options.
Staff recruitment and retention is an on-going issue for NSW
Health and one of the prime strategies supported by the Minister
is an increase in access to child care services for Health
staff.
NSW Health Children's Services is a strategic unit established
in response to this need and is managed by the Statewide
Coordinator for Children's Services. The unit is part
of the Workforce Development & Leadership Branch.
The aims are to increase access to child
care places and the range of services available to Health
staff for their family and work needs. Issues such as cost,
flexibility of service, hours of operation, under 2 year
old care, school age care and others will be considered in
planning service access. Funding has been approved for the
development of children's services places for Health staff
and Area Health Services are being requested to plan for
their staff needs and to submit proposals.
