Services for Staff

Currently their are three types of services available for health staff to meet their work and family needs. These service types are outlined below.

Child Care Centres at Hospitals
Currently there are 14 employer sponsored Child Care Centres on hospital sites. Some child care centres offer evening care, to accommodate the needs of shift and after hours staff. The places are funded by the Area Health Service. There are also 3 community managed Child Care Centres with priority of access for health staff for evening care and extended hours of operation. As well as these child care services additionally there are 7 community managed Child Care Centres located on a number of sites in NSW Hospitals.

Vacation Care
Vacation Care is child care provided for school aged children during school holidays, for at least 8 continuous hours on each normal working day. Currently there are 20 Vacation Care Services on or near Hospital sites for Health staff. Childcare Benefit is available to parents using this type of care.

Family Day Care Services
This form of child care is offered in private homes by carers licensed by the Department of Community Services. NSW Health Children's Services is currently working with Family Day Care schemes throughout the state to establish places for Health staff. Family Day Care programs can provide care outside of school hours for school aged children, as well as occasional care. Childcare Benefit is available to parents using Family Day Care.

In Home Care
In home care is a flexible form of child care where the care is provided in the child's home by an approved carer. Care is monitored and supported by an approved agency to ensure quality outcomes for children. The NSW In Home Care Services out sources in home child care for families who meet the priority of access guidelines. While there are currently no specific places set aside for Health staff, this service option is available for parents to access In Home Child Care when other child care services are unable to meet their needs.
