Services for Staff
Currently their are three types of services available for
health staff to meet their work and family needs. These service
types are outlined below.
Child Care
Centres at Hospitals
Currently there are 14 employer sponsored Child Care Centres on hospital sites.
Some child care centres offer evening care, to accommodate the needs of shift
and after hours staff. The places are funded by the Area Health Service. There
are also 3 community managed Child Care Centres with priority of access for
health staff for evening care and extended hours of operation. As well as these
child care services additionally there are 7 community managed Child Care Centres
located on a number of sites in NSW Hospitals.
Vacation Care
Vacation Care is child care provided for school aged children during school
holidays, for at least 8 continuous hours on each normal working day. Currently
there are 20 Vacation Care Services on or near Hospital sites for Health
staff. Childcare Benefit is available to parents using this type of care.
Family Day
Care Services
This form of child care is offered in private homes by carers licensed by the
Department of Community Services. NSW Health Children's Services is currently
working with Family Day Care schemes throughout the state to establish places
for Health staff. Family Day Care programs can provide care outside of
school hours for school aged children, as well as occasional care. Childcare
Benefit is available to parents using Family Day Care.
In Home Care
In home care is a flexible form of child care
where the care is provided in the child's home by an approved
carer. Care is monitored and supported by an approved agency
to ensure quality outcomes for children. The NSW In Home
Care Services out sources in home child care for families
who meet the priority of access guidelines. While
there are currently no specific places set aside for Health
staff, this service option is available for parents to
access In Home Child Care when other child care services
are unable to meet their needs. For more information
