The Vacation Care Service is managed by Kogarah Vacation Care (Greek Welfare Centre) for the staff of St.George Hospital & South Eastern Sydney Area Health Service.

LOCATION: The service is located at Kogarah High School on Gladstone Street in Kogarah. It is a short walk from Kogarah railway station and buses, and a 10 minute walk from St. George Hospital.

HOURS OF OPENING: The program is run from 6.45am – 6.00pm during school vacation periods, excluding public holidays.

HOW TO BOOK:

  1. Enrolment forms are sent out 4 weeks prior to the commencement of school holidays to those people on our mailing list. If you are not on our mailing list and wish to have an enrolment form, please contact Greek Welfare Centre, Stella Toumbelekis Tel: 9516 2188.

  2. Once you have your enrolment form, fill out all details and return to PO Box 784, Newtown 2042.

  3. Confirmation of your booking will be posted to you along with a invoice for payment.

  4. Places are allocated on a first-come basis. Should your requested booking not be possible, you will be contacted by phone to attempt to make other arrangements.

  5. Payments for excursions or other events should be made to the Vacation Care Staff during the holiday period, in cash.

FEES: Daily fee per child applies. Parents are able to claim Child Care Benefit.

WHAT TO BRING: Children are required to bring all their own food and refreshments, ie. Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, as we do not supply any food or drinks (although water is always available). Any specific requirements for the day will be listed on the calendar of activities for each vacation period. Children should wear appropriate clothing as some activities can be very messy. A change of clothes is a good idea. Please provide your child with a sun hat and sunscreen for outdoor play. Children will not be allowed to play outdoors without an appropriate hat. Children are urged not to bring personal items/toys to vacation care, as staff will not be held responsible for any items that go missing. Please ensure all belongings are labelled with your child’s name.

PROGRAM: There is a range of activities each day, including art, craft, construction, sports, games and puzzles, which will be organised by the staff. As well as this, there are specific additional activities or excursions organised for each day. All children are encouraged to become involved in the activities, but are never forced to participate. A program calendar is sent out with enrolment forms prior to each vacation care period.

STAFFING: The Service is staffed at all times by a trained teacher or child care worker, as well as 1 or 2 other workers. Staffing numbers are dependent upon the number of children enrolled, with a minimum of 1 adult to 10 children. Extra staff are employed for excursions as needed to maintain a higher ratio.
