GMCT Gynaecological Oncology Network

There are approximately 1,250 new cases of gynaecological cancer diagnosed each year in NSW. Care of these women and their families is complex and requires the coordination of multiple modalities of therapy, integration of many tiers of health service and attention to the complex psychosocial demands resulting from these diagnoses.

The GMCT's Gynaecological Oncology (GO) Network involves clinicians and consumers from the broad range of gynaecological oncology services in NSW. The major centres providing treatment are:

  • John Hunter Hospital
  • Liverpool Hospital
  • Royal Hospital for Women
  • Royal North Shore Hospital
  • Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
  • Westmead Hospital

The Network was established in 2002 led by a Committee with broad representation. The role of the GO Committee is to promote high quality gynaecological cancer care for women and to improve access to comprehensive gynaecological cancer services across NSW.

The Gynaecological Oncology Committee also collaborates closely with the Cancer Institute NSW as a quasi-NSW Oncology Group (NSWOG).

Links have been developed with NSW Health, Cancer Institute NSW, Clinical Excellence Commission, Institute of Palliative Medicine, NSW Institute of Rural Clinical Services and Teaching, NSW Rural Health Taskforce, Cancer Voices, Cancer Council and Lifeforce Cancer Foundation.
