Support Services

Through surveys and information gathered by the psychosocial support team who regularly run 1 day rural workshops and 3 day retreats for GO patients, it is clear that patients returning home after treatment in a tertiary centre often have no idea of the support services available to them, nor where to look for help.

There is a fragmentation of care that we would like to address by providing them with the contact details of one person who undertakes support co-ordination in their locale, and who can assist in finding available support services once they leave the Gynaecological Oncology Centre in Sydney or Newcastle.

There are many caring clinicians who have agreed to be that contact. Whether they are Cancer Institute Cancer Care Coordinators, Social Workers, Palliative or Community Nurses, their clinical role may be secondary to the patient for the purposes of this exercise, albeit a bonus. Please access Information for Support Coordinators for further information about support services.

Clinicians in each of the 7 Gynaecological Oncology units will be able to access the contact number of the Support Co-ordinator closest their patient's home. By adding this contact number to the Information on Support Services for Patients form, they will ensure the patient can access support care near her home.

To locate the contact number for the Support Co-ordinator closest your patient's home search NSW Support Coordinator Contacts. Some smaller towns or suburbs may not be represented, so please try the closest town or suburb if your first search is unsuccessful. If you know of an appropriate contact clinician in any town / suburb which is missing from the list, please advise the GMCT GO Secretariat at Contact Us.
