Information and Communication Technology
The GMCT Information and Communications and Technology area improves clinical data collection and reporting of health information for GMCT Clinical Networks.
A particular focus is on the development and implementation of a sustainable, integrated Information Management Strategies for the clinical networks and the secretariat to ensure a consistency of approach to the strategic framework of NSW Health’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Plan 2006-2011, the NSW Government State Health Plan 2007 and local area health service plans to reduce duplication and contribute to sustainability.
The GMCT ICT Team assists the clinical networks determine the strategic, operational and technical requirements to facilitate:
- Clinical data collection and reporting.
- Information sharing through the principles of knowledge management.
- Participation in Interagency programs of work thus reducing duplication.
- System design and procurement that is tied to the NSW Health ICT Strategy
- Relationships with NSW Health Strategic Information Management Branch, Health Technology, Health Support and other external agencies and vendors.
The GMCT ICT team has adopted the following principles to guide the management of information and communications technology:
1. GMCT information management practices are consistent with initiatives at a federal, state and area health service level.
2. GMCT specialty clinical network ICT strategies are clinician led.
3. Information management investments are made in areas of greatest need with achievable benefits.
4. System solutions are implemented using available infrastructure to reduce duplication and be cost effective.
5. Information management practices are enabled through collaboration with NSW Health, Area Health Services, and Health Technology and third party providers.
6. Collaboration on information management practices is undertaken with agencies internal and external to health.
7. Provision of information management support to clinicians improves patient care.
