Musculoskeletal Network Structure
Membership
The Musculoskeletal Network has two co-chairs; John Eisman from the Garvan Institute and Lyn March from Royal North Shore Hospital.
Network members include the following:
- Rheumatologists
- Endocrinologists
- Geriatricians
- Orthopaedic Surgeons
- General Practitioners
- Radiologists
- Nurses involved in specialities such as orthopaedics, osteoporosis, and rheumatology
- Allied health professionals
- Consumers (patients, carers or representatives of non-governmental organisations providing information and services to NSW consumers, e.g. Arthritis NSW and Osteoporosis Australia)
- Clinical Excellence Commission
- Clinical Education & Training Institute
- Community home care organisations such as Community Options.
The Musculoskeletal Network currently has over 180 members including clinicians (doctors, nurses and allied health), consumers, acaedmics, managers and policy makers. Membership is free but involves some commitment, either at a local level or through active work across NSW. It is expected the Network members will share their successes and expertise. All members of the Network are invited to attend meetings which are held bi-monthly. In addition, many will be involved in Working Groups concerning specific items on the Network’s Work Plan such as:

Implementation of the NSW Model of Care for Osteoporotic Refracture Prevention

Development of key performance indicators

A plan for early diagnosis and management of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and other Paediatric Rheumatoid Disease

Development of a guideline for the pre, peri and post operative care of people requiring elective hip and knee replacement surgery

Curriculum development on Osteoporosis for Junior Doctors - in collaboration with IMET at the Clinical Education and Training Institute (CETI)

Development of an educational program for nurses working in musculoskeletal clinical settings

Development and implementation of a model of care for people with osteoarthritis.
