Nurse Standing Committee (NSC)

Current Focus

The NSC has received funding to:
  • Develop eye emergency education modules for nurses
  • Deliver workshops across NSW for ED clinicians to introduce the eye emergency guidelines.
 
Nine thirty minute Eye Emergency Clinician Education presentations have been developed by ophthalmic nurse educators and clinical nurse consultants at Sydney Hospital/Sydney Eye Hospital. They reflect the consensus clinical guidelines published in the EEM and are used in the Eye Emergency Clinician Education workshops for nursing and medical clinicals around NSW. Topics include include eye examination, eye skills, ocular trauma, triage and ocular history, vision loss and visual acuity.

Background: The NSC worked with the PHSS (Provision of Hospital Services Subcommittee) to develop the Eye Emergency Manual. Consensus clinical guidelines for the management of eye emergencies for non ophthalmic clinicians are published in this manual.
