The 2014 NSW Food Forum held on 11 March in Sydney has helped to start a new conversation on how to create healthier food environments in our state.
Opened by the Minister for Healthy Lifestyles, the Hon. Kevin Humphries MP, and chaired by media personality Adam Spencer, the Forum bought together more than 250 stakeholders to discuss current initiatives and agree on opportunities for future action.
The audience comprised: community (20%), food industry (11%), NGOs (16%), academia (19%), NSW Health (28%) and other government (6%).
In addition to presentations by guest speakers (YouTube presentations available below), there were two Q&A sessions where audience members had the chance to raise issues and question the experts.
Feedback from the Forum was extremely positive, with Adam Spencer highly commended for bringing great energy to the room and asking thought-provoking questions to get the panel discussion going. .
Many participants called for frequent Food Forums in the future to report on annual progress. .
The Report of the NSW Food Forum is now available and a series of smaller stakeholder workshops will be held later in 2014 to help shape the response to the issues raised.
