Capacity Building Infrastructure Grants Program

Health Research and Ethics

The Health Ethics Branch within the Centre for Epidemiology and Research is responsible for developing, communicating, implementing and evaluating policies, frameworks and guidelines to ensure that ethical considerations are given proper weight in medical and clinical practice and research within the NSW Public Health System.

The Branch has a role in supporting NSW Health Human Research Ethics Committees, and in dealing with research ethics policy. As well as maintaining these functions, the Branch is tasked with reviewing, developing and implementing policies and guidelines in relation to clinical ethics.

The Branch acts as a resource centre and source of advice to clinicians, researchers and HRECs regarding ethical matters and provides secretariat services to major ethics-related committees.

The Branch is also responsible for developing and implementing research and development policy applicable to the NSW Health system and contributing to national policy in health and medical research development. The Branch administers the NSW Health Capacity Building Infrastructure Grants Program.
