| The Health Ethics Branch within
the Centre for Epidemiology and Research is responsible for
developing, communicating, implementing and evaluating policies,
frameworks and guidelines to ensure that ethical considerations
are given proper weight in medical and clinical practice and
research within the NSW Public Health System.
The Branch has a role in supporting NSW Health Human Research
Ethics Committees, and in dealing with research ethics policy.
As well as maintaining these functions, the Branch is tasked
with reviewing, developing and implementing policies and guidelines
in relation to clinical ethics.
The Branch acts as a resource centre and source of advice
to clinicians, researchers and HRECs regarding ethical matters
and provides secretariat services to major ethics-related
committees.
The Branch is also responsible for developing and implementing
research and development policy applicable to the NSW Health
system and contributing to national policy in health and medical
research development. The Branch administers the NSW Health
Capacity Building Infrastructure Grants Program.
