What is waiting time?

How does it work?

Note that in some cases GPs have admitting rights to hospitals. If the specialist doctor decides you should be admitted, he/she will fill out a Recommendation for Admission form to be taken to the hospital. Sometimes the specialist will deliver the form to the hospital and sometimes you will be asked to do it.

Booked medical and surgical patients are categorised by urgency to ensure that they receive care in the most timely manner.

When the hospital receives your form, staff will let you know approximately how long you may have to wait for your admission.

Staff from the hospital will then contact you when a date for your admission has been set. They will try to give you a minimum of two weeks' notice of your admission date.
