NSW Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program

"Providing a comprehensive Brain Injury Rehabilitation Services to the population of NSW"

Southern Area Brain Injury Service

The Southern Area Brain Injury Service (SABIS) is available to people living in or returning to, the NSW Southern Area Health Service Region. SABIS provides assistance to adults of working age with a brain injury, and their families. A coordination and consultancy service for children with a brain injury is also provided.

Services Available

The service consists of a wide range of health professionals who can meet with individuals and their families to discuss specific needs and develop an individualized rehabilitation plan. A case manager will be appointed to assist in the coordination of this plan. Rehabilitation goals can be addressed by the community Outreach Team, or by the Transition Living Unit, in Goulburn
According to the needs of individuals, families and carers, staff can provide

  • Coordination and referral to other community Services.
  • Individual support and counseling
  • Independent living skills training
  • Memory skills training
  • Advice for return to work
  • Support and consultancy for return to school
  • Advice regarding home modifications
  • Advocacy
  • Information and education for carers
  • Information regarding respite services

In addition to this, case managers will liaise with insurance companies, solicitors, doctors, and other agencies as required
Staff are also able to provide consultancy services to other professional groups.

Referrals

Referrals can be made by individuals, families, carers, medical practitioners or other service providers. Early referral of potential clients is recommended

8:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
