St Vincent's Radiation Oncology, St Vincent's Hospital, Darlinghurst

Location

St Vincent's Radiation Oncology is situated in the eastern suburb of Darlinghurst, a 15 minute walk to Sydney CBD and five minutes to the café and boutique shopping strip of Oxford Street Paddington. The area is renowned for its restaurants and busy nightlife, and the diversity of choice in shopping. Centrally located between the city centre and the beaches of Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and equally close to the Harbour foreshores, St Vincent's provides the ideal work location for those with a penchant for sampling the good life.

Equipment

The department is located in a brightly appointed purpose built facility and has one Siemens Primus Linear Accelerator (6/10MeV), a Pantak Therapax DXT 300 Superficial/Ortho unit, a Nucletron Microselectron HDR Brachytherapy Unit, and Lantis Record and Verify system. Access is granted to St Vincent's Hospital Radiation Therapists to utilise a privately owned CT Simulator and CMS Xio planning system situated on the campus.

Staff

Radiation Therapy staff are employed through the NSW Health Department and enjoy all the benefits of employment under the public award system. Staffing establishment includes 12 Radiation Therapists, 4 Radiation Oncologists, 2 Registrars, and 2 Physicists.

Hours of Operation

Our working hours are 07:30 to 16:15 Monday to Friday with Radiation Therapists operating under a 9 day fortnight.

Caseload / Casemix

The average daily megavoltage caseload is 37 patients. Our casemix is quite varied, however Breast and Head and Neck cases make up 50% of our total caseload. Total Body Irradiation is also undertaken at St. Vincent's with an average of ten cases per year.

Research

Radiation Therapists are encouraged to undertake and participate in research projects.
