What every man needs to know (but is too embarrassed to ask)
Television personality/Newsman, John Mangos, has officially launched a men's reproductive and sexual health resource : A user's guide - what every man needs to know. The resource produced by Andrology Australia, a Commonwealth funded non government organization committed to raise awareness of male reproductive health issues.
The resource was translated due to increasing demand for the information from men with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds . Multicultural Communication, in partnership with Family Planning NSW, facilitated the translation of 'A User's Guide: what every man needs to know', originally developed by Andrology Australia. The translation was focus tested with men from various CALD backgrounds.
Carol Holden, chief executive of Andrology Australia, said it's important for men from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds to also have access to accurate health information. "CALD men have higher rates of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and depression, all of which are risk factors for erectile dysfunction," said Dr Holden.
"If there is a problem, knowing where to get information and getting help straight away can avoid serious long-term problems," she said.
Primarily available to download from the NSW Multicultural Health Communication website (www.mhcs.health.nsw.gov.au), there will also be links to the fact sheets from the Family Planning NSW and Andrology Australia websites. The brochure has been translated into Official Arabic, Bosnian, Chinese, Dari (Afghanistan), Farsi (Iran), Greek, Italian, Khmer, Korean, Serbian, Turkish and Vietnamese.
Community members who do not have access to the internet can also request for free print copies from Andrology Australia 1300 303 878.
