Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District
Welcome
My name is Kay Hyman, Chief Executive of our new Local Health District which commenced operations on 1 January 2011.
I will be working with the Local Health District Board, local clinicians and our community to provide the best possible health care to the people of Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.
Local Health Districts have come about as a result of the NSW Government’s support for national health reform. NSW was the first state in Australia to implement these new locally managed health districts.
While our LHD website is under development, you can still get access to a wealth of information about all the services that are available, locally.
Our Structure
Our Local Health District has been set-up in accordance with the National Health and Hospital Agreement.
Local decision-making is at the forefront of how the new organisation will function, led by a professional Health District Board and LHD Chief Executive.
I will work closely with the Board to ensure our LHD delivers consistently high patient care, supported by enhanced local input from clinicians and the community.
The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Board is chaired by Associate Professor Patrick Cregan and eight Board Members who bring a wealth of experience and local knowledge to the management of our LHD:
- Associate Professor Patrick Cregan (Chair)
- Mr Joseph Grassi
- Dr Andrew Keegan
- Mr Gregory Allchin
- Ms Winsome Matthews
- Professor Michael Peek
- Dr James Branley
- Professor Jennifer Reath
- Ms Tanya Gadiel
The Health District Board and Chief Executive are responsible for:
- Improving local patient outcomes and responding to issues that arise throughout our Local Health District.
- Monitoring the performance of our Local Health District against performance measures in the LHD Service Agreement.
- Delivering services and performance standards within an agreed budget, based on annual strategic and operating plans. This forms the basis of our Local Health District Service Agreement.
- Ensuring services are provided efficiently and accountably. Production of Annual Reports that are subject to State financial accountability and audit frameworks.
- Maintaining effective communication with local and State public health stakeholders.
The next few months will see the structure of our new Local Health District fully develop. I will keep this website up-to-date, so that you can monitor our progress and get to know more about how your local health system is working.
I would like to acknowledge the help being given to us by our colleagues from the Area Health Service of which we used to be a part. We are working together to build our capacity in all aspects of the Local Health District’s operations.
The Health District Board and I welcome your comments and suggestions. Please get in touch with us.
