Appointment of Clinical Excellence Commission Board

The Acting Director-General of NSW Health, Mr Bob McGregor today announced the appointment of the Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC) Board.

Professor Bruce Barraclough has been appointed as the Chair of the Commission.

The Members that make up the rest of the Board are:

  • Professor Clifford Hughes (CEO)
  • Professor Thomas Parry
  • Mrs Liz Rummery AM
  • Captain Graham Beaumont
  • Major General Peter Dunn AO
  • Professor Phillip Harris
  • Associate Professor Brian McCaughan
  • Dr Susan Page
  • Dr Alan Amodeo
  • Adjunct Professor Kathy Baker
  • Mr Noel O’Brien

Mr McGregor congratulated the appointees.

“The CEC is part of NSW Health’s ongoing commitment to tackle the biggest challenges facing the health system – the delivery of safe, accessible services to meet the rising demands for hospital treatment and mental health care,” said Mr McGregor.

The Commission continues work previously undertaken by the NSW Institute for Clinical Excellence to facilitate improvements and ensure the consistent delivery of high standard health care across NSW.

The Commission will:

  • Promote best practice systems for clinical quality and patient safety.
  • Support Area Health Services in the implementation of their clinical quality systems.
  • Monitor the state of clinical quality and patient safety in the NSW health system.
  • Provide education and training for clinicians, consumers and hospital managers on the implementation of clinical quality systems.
  • Provide advice to the Minister on matters relating to clinical quality and patient safety.
