16 November 2005 Membership of Sydney South West Area Health Advisory Council
NSW Minister for Health, John Hatzistergos today announced the appointment of the members of the Sydney South West Area Health Advisory Council (AHAC). "The newly appointed AHAC members will provide significant local clinical and community leadership within the health system," Mr Hatzistergos said. Mr Hatzistergos said the formation of local advisory councils was a key strategy in the reform of area health services across the state. "The Members have been selected for their understanding of the health challenges facing NSW communities. They bring a unique perspective on the issues confronting their local area," "The Area Health Advisory Council is a crucial part of the State Government's strong and detailed plans to ensure that local communities and clinicians play an integral role in the planning and development of health services. "The Councils will work with the chief executive of each area health service to ensure that clinicians, patients and the community are effectively engaged and consulted. "The Council members will play a crucial role in providing advice on issues such as health service planning and workforce development. "This delivers on the commitment the NSW Government made when the area health service restructure was announced, to increase the level of clinical and community input when addressing the growing demands on the health system," Mr Hatzistergos said. SYDNEY SOUTH WEST AREA HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBERS Professor Jeremy Wilson is Professor of Medicine and Clinical Associate Dean at South Western Sydney Clinical School at the University of NSW. He is Director of Medicine and Gastroenterology at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital. Professor Wilson is also Chair of the SWSAHS Clinical Strategy Group and Clinical Council. Mr Henry Collins is retired. He previously worked as an engineer trainer. Mr Collins is currently the Chair of the South Western Sydney Area Health Service Consumer Community Council. He is also actively involved in many local community organisations. Mr Collins resides in Panania. Dr Mark Sheridan is a Visiting Medical Officer and Neurosurgeon. He is Director of Neurosurgery at Liverpool Health Service and Director of Surgical Services for Sydney South West Area Health Service - Western Zone. Dr Sheridan resides in the Bankstown municipality. Dr Roger Garsia is senior staff specialist physician in immunology and allergy at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He is also Director of Clinical HIV/AIDS Services for former Central Sydney Area Health Service. Mr Daryl Wright is CEO of Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation. He is a negotiator who works with NSW Police and Aboriginal communities. Mr Wright resides in Greenacre. Dr John Meadth is a GP in Concord. Has also completed Psychiatric Registrar Training. Dr Meadth is a Resident Medical Officer at St Vincents, Lidcombe and Bankstown Hospitals. He resides in Concord. Ms Dalmah (Dell) Cotter is a community representative in various organisations including Macarthur Community Health Committee. Ms Cotter resides in Ambervale. Professor Don Nutbeam is responsible for faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Midwifery, Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Sydney University. He specialises in public health and has been the head of Public Health for the UK Government. Ms Sue McClelland is coordinator of the Bankstown Women's Health Centre, a non government organisation. Ms McCelland resides in Wattle Grove. Mrs Adriana Navarro is solicitor and partner in Navarro and Associates. She has qualifications in communications and interpreter Spanish/English professional level (NAATI). Mrs Navarro resides in Liverpool Mrs Sandra Gav is Accounts Manager for Mars Property Group. She is Founder of Foundation IV, which finances research for the Institute of Haematology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Mrs Gav resides in Ashfield. Dr Amanda Walker is Staff Specialist in Palliative Medicine at the Camden Palliative Care Unit. She resides in Mittagong. Sr Alison Bush AO had extensive experience in nursing in King George V Labour Ward before becoming the Aboriginal Midwifery Liaison Consultant, Women's and Children's Health. She has an Honorary Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
