$390 million redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital to be fast-tracked
NSW Minister for Health, Reba Meagher, today announced that Cabinet had approved the fasttracking of the $390 million Stage 2 redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital.
Ms Meagher said the decision would bring forward the completion of the major redevelopment by 18 months to 2011.
“That means the main clinical service building will be ready for patients by late 2010, which is great news for the people of south-western Sydney,” Ms Meagher said.
“This is the fastest growing region in the state, with the population expected to grow by 325,000 people over the next 20 years.
“The first phase of the redevelopment will significantly increase the capacity of Liverpool Hospital to cater for the increasing population and demand for health services.”
Ms Meagher said Cabinet also endorsed Bovis Lend Lease as the managing contractor for the redevelopment.
“Bovis Lend Lease will design and construct the main hospital redevelopment,” Ms Meagher said.
“Demolition work is already underway on the hospital site and work on the new clinical services building – the major component of the redevelopment – is expected to start by the middle of next year.”
Phase 1 of the redevelopment will include:
• a new clinical services building, integrated with the existing clinical services block
• refurbishment of existing acute clinical facilities
• extended cancer treatment facilities
• upgraded engineering services infrastructure
• a new entrance road
• linking of the east and west campuses by bridge
• additional car parking.
“This redevelopment will provide the people of south-western Sydney with more modern, state-of-the-art health care services,” Ms Meagher said.
Once the redevelopment is completed, Liverpool Hospital will have:
• 60 adult critical care beds
• 21 operating rooms
• two endovascular suites
• expanded diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine and interventional cardiology services
• an additional helipad
• expanded ambulatory care services in an improved and efficient patient care environment
• 24 chemotherapy chairs
• 5 radiation oncology bunkers.
