14 July 2008 Minister attends Manilla planning and development meeting
Plans for the establishment of a combined Multi Purpose Service and HealthOne facility in Manilla took a significant step forward today with the first meeting of the Planning and Development Committee in Manilla. NSW Minister for Health Reba Meagher attended the meeting during a visit to Manilla Health Service. “This year we’re investing $3 million to finalise planning and get work underway on this important new health facility and I am delighted to be able to attend the first meeting of the Planning and Development Committee,” Ms Meagher said. “This investment will allow the Planning and Development Committee to finalise detailed construction plans for the $18 million integrated facility with a view to getting the building works started in the first half of next year.” Ms Meagher said a significant amount of work had already been undertaken to complete the Health Services Plan and Project Definition Plan. “These important planning documents provide the blueprint for the delivery of health care services in Manilla well into the future,” Ms Meagher said.
The HealthOne facility will provide a one-stop-shop for primary and community health services including:
Member for Tamworth Peter Draper said the combined Manilla Multi Purpose Service and HealthOne facility will allow health professionals to work together to deliver a wide range of acute and primary and community health services. “This facility will provide residents of Manilla with better access to high quality health care services in their local community, and it is great to see the Planning and Development Committee getting on with the job,” Mr Draper said. The Planning and Development Committee comprises representatives from Hunter New England Area Health Service’s Capital Works and Aboriginal Health units as well as Manilla Health Service staff, community representatives from the Manilla Local Health Advisory Council, local GPs and a representative from the Health Infrastructure Board (the new Board set up by NSW Government to overview capital works projects). Ms Meagher said tenders had closed for the Project Director Procurement and the Principal Design Consultants and appointments were expected to be announced next month. “These key roles will oversee the final stages of design and constriction of the new facility as well as ensuring local doctors, nurses and other health professionals are appropriately consulted,” Ms Meagher said. “Our community partners have been very supportive of the establishment of this facility in Manilla and they have already provided valuable input into the planning process to make sure this facility meets the needs of the local community.” For a range of health information, go online to www.health.nsw.gov.au |
