NSW Health grants program

NSW Minister for Health, John Della Bosca, said there were no cuts to Health grants for non-government organisations in 2008/09 in the NSW Mini-Budget.

"I know some organisations are concerned that NSW Health will slow the growth of its non-government funding program from 2009/10," Mr Della Bosca said.

"I want to assure non-government organisations that no decisions have been made about any individual grant or any organisation," he said.

Over four years, NSW Health will reduce its $500 million grants program by $11 million, or about two per cent.

"When grants come to an end, they will be reviewed to see how they contribute to the health of our community and to ensure they complement the care we provide in the community and in hospitals," the Minister said.

"Non government organisations do a magnificent job for our community and the Rees Government will continue to support their work with a very large grants program.

"This review will be done in consultation with peak welfare groups.

"Every health dollar counts.

"We want to minimise red tape and reporting costs and ensure the community gets the most out of its spending.

"We are determined to make sure the non-government grants program is preventing illness and disease, promoting good health and providing community support, information and advice," he said.
