28 July 2009 e-learning for doctors and nurses on child treatments
A new state-wide computer program has been launched to help doctors and nurses train in diagnosis and treatment options for children. NSW Minister for Health, John Della Bosca, said NSW Health had previously distributed training manuals and guidelines to Area Health Services for the most common problems doctors and nurses face when treating infants and young people in hospital emergency departments. “They now have easier access to the material through this special internet link, at any time and place,” the Minister said. “The e-learning package will allow the clinicians to test their knowledge about common childhood conditions in a simulated environment. “The new program has been developed as part of a joint initiative between NSW Health staff, Clinical Excellence Commission and the NSW Child Health Networks. “It is a key initiative to ensure our doctors and nurses can keep up to date on the 12 most common illnesses suffered by children who attend hospital emergency departments. “This is part of the NSW Government’s Caring Together: The NSW Health Action Plan, a four-year $485 million commitment to improving patient care,” the Minister said. “That includes providing our hard working doctors and nurses with the very latest in education and training technology,” he added.
