Construction tenders called for Manilla MPS HealthOne

The Deputy Premier and Minister for Health, Carmel Tebbutt, has announced the tender process for the new combined Manilla Multi Purpose Service (MPS) and HealthOne is underway.

A number of quality applicants have been selected from the Department of Commerce’s prequalified list for the construction of the innovative facility and it is anticipated the winning tenderer will be announced in December. Construction is expected to begin in early 2010.

“The $18 million facility will combine both a Multi Purpose Service and a HealthOne service into a single building,” Ms Tebbutt said.

“The result will be a fully integrated ‘one stop shop’ where residents can access all of the communities health services, from GP services and preventative healthcare to acute services, all in one location.

“This is the first time these two service models will be built into a single facility since the NSW Government committed $52 million in capital and recurrent funds over five years to 2010/11 to establish the services across the state.”

The planners of the facility have also allowed space for visiting specialist services to be introduced to the services into the future as needed.

An enclosed corridor between the MPS HealthOne and the nearby aged care facility Manellae Lodge will also improve healthcare access for the Lodge residents.

The new Manilla MPS will include:
• 12 acute beds
• 20 residential care beds
• One new birthing suite and rooms for antenatal and postnatal services
• New two-bay emergency department, complete with a more private entrance
• A new front entrance with a covered drop-off point and new carpark.
• A large, secure, central landscaped courtyard.

The HealthOne Manilla component will include:
• Clinic rooms for Manilla GPs and other Visiting Medical Specialists
• Treatment rooms and work areas for community health
• Consultation rooms for other health professionals

“I look forward to announcing the winning tenderer for this innovative facility in December,” Ms
Tebbutt said.
