​A $50 million upgrade to the Bowral & District Hospital will begin this year, delivering world-class health facilities to Southern Highlands residents.

Minister for Health and Medical Research Brad Hazzard said the significant upgrade will ensure excellent health care for the Southern Highlands well into the future.

“After consultation with representatives of the local community and medical staff, we have decided on a Government-led approach for this significant upgrade,” Mr Hazzard said.

“This $50 million investment for Bowral Hospital is part of a record $550 million health infrastructure boom for country NSW, transforming regional and rural health care and generating thousands of local jobs.”

Member for Goulburn Pru Goward, MP said: “The Bowral community is seeing the benefits of a Liberal-National Government that is ensuring everyone in NSW gets excellent health care no matter where they live.”

Member for Wollondilly Jai Rowell, MP said he is very excited about this significant redevelopment for Bowral Hospital.
“This will mean expanded services, state-of-the-art facilities and the best possible health care for the Southern Highlands,” Mr Rowell said.

The purpose-built new development for Bowral and District Hospital will include:

  • new operating theatres
  • adult and paediatric inpatient wards
  • birthing suites
  • more single rooms with ensuites
  • new rehabilitation spaces
  • a new hospital entrance.

The clinical services plan and other planning will now be finalised in the next few months and enabling works are due to commence in late 2017.​​​​​
