Nurse Practitioner

The role of a Nurse Practitioner is a relatively new and exciting career path in Australia providing nurses with the opportunity to take on advanced and expanded roles. With their knowledge, expertise and education, Nurse Practitioners are able to perform physical assessment, initiate diagnostic tests and interpret the results of those tests, determine the best form of treatment, prescribe medications if necessary and refer patients to specialists.

Nurse Practitioners work with nurses, allied health professionals, staff specialists and general practitioners in patient care. You'll have the choice of working in a variety of health care settings, such as in emergency departments, paediatrics, midwifery, outpatient clinics, hospital wards, Aboriginal communities and in rural and remote areas

Nurse Practitioners operate within approved clinical guidelines and have a wide range of experience, skills and knowledge in their chosen speciality. The opportunity to have these advanced skills recognised and respected has inspired a number of nurses to pursue this career path.
