Rehabilitation Nursing

Become a Nurse or MidwifePeople who require rehabilitation following an illness or injury need a great deal of support, empathy and understanding on their road to recovery. The Rehabilitation Nurse is a key figure in this process, co-ordinating the patient's rehabilitation and often being the central point of contact for both the family and other health professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech pathologists.

Rehabilitation occurs in many different settings with people of all ages. The main focus for a Rehabilitation Nurse is helping the patient and their family to achieve the best possible outcome in terms of function, health and independence. The Rehabilitation Nurse can also play an essential educational role, helping their patient re-learn the skills they need to live their life as independently as possible.

The rehabilitation environment is different to the acute care setting but is equally rewarding. And the skills and expertise gained from working in rehabilitation are relevant to all other areas of nursing.
