Becoming an Enrolled Nurse
If you're keen to enter the nursing profession as soon as possible and start making a difference within your community, then becoming an Enrolled Nurse may be the best option for you.
The Enrolled Nurse Course in NSW provides a mix of theory and clinical experience. During this time you'll study a wide range of nursing subjects and learn how nurses care for people across their lifespan.
Admission to the Enrolled Nurse Course is not based on the University Admissions Index (UAI). As an Enrolled Nurse you may receive credit for qualifications and experience when undertaking an undergraduate nursing degree at university.
As an Enrolled Nurse, your duties will range from providing physical and emotional support, to more complex care and administering medications. Every day brings new challenges and rewards. As well you will have the opportunity to perform these duties in a range of different settings. This could include working on hospital wards, in aged care facilities, operating theatres or in community settings such as Aboriginal health clinics.
Many Area Health Services have Enrolled Nurse positions specifically allocated to people from an Aboriginal background.
If you don't have any formal qualifications, the best option is to apply to one of the many TAFE colleges throughout NSW offering an Access to Nursing (Certificate II) Course. This course prepares you for formal study and employment as well as providing you with all the additional skills you will need for a career in nursing.
