Aboriginal Undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery Cadetships
The aim of the NSW Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Undergraduate Cadetships is to give Aboriginal people the opportunity to undertake undergraduate nursing or midwifery courses while employed in a public hospital in NSW.
Aboriginal people can apply for the cadetships if they are enrolled in a nursing or midwifery course on a full-time basis at an approved university.
Once cadets have successfully completed their degree, they are then offered ongoing employment in a public hospital that they have been employed with while studying.
The cadetship is divided into 3 parts:
- Study Component - cadets will receive a study allowance from the employer on a fortnightly basis for the academic year (40 weeks at $600 per week).
- Work Placement - for 12-weeks of the long academic break (11 weeks work and 1 weeks annual leave) cadets will be working on a temporary basis in a public hospital.
- Offer of Employment - at the completion of their course and once registered with the Nurses and Midwives Board, permanent employment is offered to the cadet. There are currently limited cadetship positions.
