Enrolled Nursing (EN) Course

How to become an EN

The path to becoming an Enrolled Nurse changed in 2009 from an employed model, to a model where people are trained before being employed as an Enrolled Nurse.

This means that, students will do a course to become an Enrolled Nurse and then apply to work in a hospital or nursing home. TAFE NSW provides this course at the moment and other providers may be available in the future. During the TAFE course students will attend clinical placements in hospitals and other health facilities organised as part of their training.

Information on entry requirements and scholarship application forms is available from each TAFE Institute.

Where there is demand, TAFE NSW will continue to deliver commercial training, and training for those students working in the private health sector. These programs will have different arrangements, negotiated locally. Scholarships are not currently available for the private or commercial courses.
