Practice Development: Children's Hospital at Westmead

Professor Val Wilson

Val is Director of the Nursing Research and Practice Development Unit at the Children's Hospital at Westmead and Professor of Nursing Research and Practice Development at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Val works closely with clinicians and nursing leaders on a wide range of practice development, evaluation and research activities. She is an IPDC facilitator and is part of an international practice development collaborative.

Projects

  • The implementation and evaluation of a three-year practice development program
  • The development of person-centred cultures through an integrated practice development and work-based learning program
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of a family-centred model of care for the transition of long term ventilated children from the acute care setting into the community
  • Implementation and evaluation of the TLC model in two clinical units at The Children's Hospital at Westmead - focuses on facilitating person-centred care using a teamwork, learning and change model
  • Transitions in care: facilitating effective transitions for young people
  • Developing strategies for safer and predictable work practices in nursing.
