Models of Care
Useful models of care referencesProfessor Mary Chiarella has been leading the models of Care Program since 2004. Some of the work highlighted across NSW has been underpinned by Practice Development principles.
The Nursing Models of Care Project was established to assist clinical nurses to:
- explore and develop innovative models of nursing care delivery and organisation that would facilitate best clinical practice and
- develop new and emerging roles and partnerships within nursing and health care
Workshops, seminars and road shows have been a feature of the project, involving frontline nursing and midwifery staff and senior clinicians across NSW using their local experience and knowledge to help implement new models of care across the State.
The Models of Care Program is ongoing and the projects Essentials of Care and Take the lead have evolved from the early work.
It has been identified that specialist nursing groups have particular needs in regard to models of care. Prof Chiarella in conjunction with the Agency for Clinical Innovation is facilitating projects in haemodialysis to assist nurses to change the way they organise haemodialysis nursing care.
Prof Chiarella is also conducting a peri-operative models of care project with the NSW Operating Theatre Nurses Association.
