Summary of scholarship categories
A range of scholarships are provided by the NSW Department of Health for nursing and midwifery students in NSW. The level of scholarship is determined each year.
Opening and closing dates for all scholarships are as listed in the following table. Applicants will be required to meet all of the criteria which will be listed when applications to each scholarship open.
Re-application for any of the NSW Department of Health Nursing and Midwifery scholarship is required each year of your course.
Aboriginal Undergraduate Scholarships are for Aboriginal students undertaking a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery. Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required.
Rural Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded to first year students from a rural location undertaking a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery degree.
Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife Undergraduate Scholarships are for Enrolled Nurses employed in a permanent full time or part time position within the NSW public health system, who undertake a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery.
Priority may be given to Enrolled Nurses and Endorsed Enrolled Nurses employed in areas of need such as mental health and rural locations.
Undergraduate Rural Placement Grants are provided to assist students with travel and accommodation costs directly associated with Rural Clinical Placements done in a rural public health facility for students undertaking a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery.
Metropolitan Clinical Placement Grants are for Clinical Placements done in a Metropolitan public health facility are for students undertaking a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery degree at a Rural University.
Rural Universities for this purpose are Charles Sturt University, University of New England and Southern Cross University.
Post Graduate Scholarships are available to permanent full time or part time Registered Nurses or Registered Midwives employed and currently working in the NSW public health system, to assist with educational expenses directly associated with postgraduate study.
Aboriginal postgraduate Scholarships are also available for Aboriginal Nurses or Midwives currently working in the NSW public health system to assist with educational expenses directly associated with postgraduate study.
Enrolled Nurse Medication Administration Scholarships are for Enrolled Nurses currently working in the NSW public health system who undertake gap training for medication administration endorsement. The scholarships will only be offered in 2010 and 2011. After 2011 there will be no further scholarships for medication endorsement courses.
Post Enrolment Scholarships are awarded to Enrolled Nurses employed and currently working in the NSW public health system who undertake a post enrolment nursing course. The course must be accredited by the Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB).
Innovation Scholarships are awarded to allow selected nurses and midwives across the state to implement models of care and new approaches that will drive improvements in areas of the health system.
